Mysterious aircraft designations
Aircraft with designations that are mysterious or were mysterious at some point in time. Aircraft that have a controversial designation that did not fit with a orginization and its desigantion system at the time or the planes design or how it was used. Also, proper designations tied to a clandestine or mysterious aircraft or its designation, or multiple unclear designations for the same aircraft. Aircraft with just a complicated naming history alone are not included, but are especially debated or have a furtive or possibly clandestine confusion. Note the F-17 was used by the YF-17 predecessor of the F/A-18 and competior to the F-16. - Heinkel He 113 only existed as a propaganda device.
