Narco-capitalism
Narco-capitalism or narcocapitalism is a capitalist system in which trade in illegal drugs plays a prominent role in the economy. One can brand as a narco-capitalist an individual who accumulates significant capital through drug trafficking on a large scale. Narco-capitalists (notoriously) employ gang violence, bribery of officials, assassinations, and terrorist acts. They might also potentially channel "narco-dollars" into more mainstream political or economic activity. One can disparagingly refer to a country such as Colombia or Afghanistan as a narco-state, implying a significant presence (a "nest") of such narco-capitalists, according to some users of the term. Critics of this interpretation would argue that doing so could tend to oversimplify the situation in any of the countries referenced in such a manner.
