Navy League Cadet Corps
The Navy League Cadet Corps(NLCC) is the younger version of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC). Cadets in the NLCC range in age from 10 thru 14. The mission of the NLCC is to train cadets so that they are prepared for the NSCC. While NLCC cadets can go into the NSCC when they turn 13, they can elect to remain in the NLCC until 14, when they must either transfer into the NSCC, or leave the program. NLCC cadets wear US Navy uniform - with appropriate shoulder insignia denoting NLCC membership. NSCC officers administer the program and supervise the cadets. NLCC Units are grouped with NSCC units under the supervision of regional, and senior regional directors. NLCC units are denoted by the initals T.S. (standing for TRAINING SHIP). NSCC units are denoted by the word DIVISION). So, T.S. HAMILTON would easilly be known as an NLCC unit while HAVEN DIVISION would be easilly known as an NSCC unit. NLCC Training rotations (Boot Camp, Advanced Training) last for one week periods, unlike NSCC training rotations which last for two week periods. NLCC Cadets can earn most of the same type of ribbons and awards as Sea Cadets, and can take those ribbons with them when they transfer. The rank system for cadets goes from Recruit, Apprentice Cadet, Able Cadet, Petty Officer 3rd Class, Petty Officer 2nd Class, Petty Officer 1st Class, Ship Lead Petty Officer. Promotions are made by time-in requirement and passing of examinations. A cadet who makes at least the grade of Petty Officer Third Class and has at last one unbroken year of service will go into the NSCC at a higher grade.
