Nazim al-Kudsi
Nazim al-Kudsi (1906 February 7 1998) was a Syrian Arab nationalist politician. He began his political career in 1932 as a member of the Arab nationalist National Bloc. He was Prime Minister and foreign minister of Syria under Hashim al-Atassi from 1950 until 1951 when Atassi's government was overthrown. al-Kudsi was President of Syria from December 14 1961 until March 8 1963. He led Syria out of the short-lived United Arab Republic a federation with Egypt. He survived several coup attempts in 1962 but was overthrown in 1963 by military officers, with the support of the Syrian Ba'ath Party. He moved to Lebanon where he lived until 1986. He then moved to Jordan as Syrian influence in Lebanon began to grow. He lived in Jordan for the rest of his life, and died there.
