Nederpop

Nederpop

Nederpop is a Dutch term that was invented during the early 1980s to name the sudden growth of the Dutch language pop music of the Netherlands. The name roughly translates to Netherpop (obviously a play on the name of the country and of the language).

The meaning of the name has eroded as it now stands for both pop music in the Dutch language and pop music from the Netherlands of any period. So Shocking Blue and Focus are now considered Nederpop by some, even though they scored their hits a decade before the name was introduced.

The original meaning came about because of the huge success of Doe Maar. This success helped other bands to sing in Dutch and/or get the spot light.

Eighties

Aside from Doe Maar, the early eighties were good for amongst others the Frank Boeijen Groep, Het Goede Doel and Toontje Lager.

Later Netherlandic

  • Acda & de Munnik
  • Luie hond
  • Osdorp Posse

    Other Dutch

  • The Nits (mainly English language)
  • Claw Boys Claw
