NIR 1 Class
The 1 Class of Northern Ireland Railways were three diesel-hydraulic shunting locomotives. They were built by English Electric Ltd at their Vulcan Foundry works in Newton-le-Willows in 1969. They were of 0-6-0 wheel arrangement and fitted with Dorman 12QTV engines of 620hp. They weighed 42.5tons and had a maximum speed of 29mph. All three were put into store during the late 1980s, the first in 1986 (1) and the last in 1989 (2). They have since been purchased for preservation by the Irish Traction Group and are now at Carrick-on-Suir.
