NITLEThe National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education (NITLE) was established in September, 2001, through a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, to serve as a catalyst for innovation and collaboration for national liberal arts colleges as they seek to make effective use of technology.NITLE works with three regional technology centers to develop an integrated set of programs and projects that enhance teaching, learning, scholarship, and information management for 81 colleges. The National Institute works with three regional technology centers to serve national liberal arts colleges supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The curricular initiatives, research agendae, and resources for learning developed by NITLE respond to the needs of liberal arts colleges in the areas of:
NITLE's executive director is Jo Ellen Parker, former president of the Great Lakes Colleges Association and one of the original architects of The Mellon Foundation's Centers Strategy for liberal arts colleges. The NITLE Program Committee has published a comprehensive report of NITLE and Regional Centers programming for the first 18 months of the Centers Strategy. Almost 2400 individual administrators, faculty, technologists, librarians and students from 81 colleges have participated in 135 distinct programs.
