NME compilations
Since it's turnaround in the mid 80s, the New Musical Express (more commonly known as the NME) has occasionally supplied vinyl, cassettes and; more recently; CDs on it's cover. This is partially an attempt to persuade you to buy their magazine, but more importantly it's an opportunity to own music they believe their readers would like to hear. Plenty of popular alternative artists have, at one point in their lives, appeared on this 'coverdisc' (or 'covertape'), including The Smiths, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, The Stone Roses, Stereophonics and many more.
