O-grade
The Scottish Certificate of Education (SCE) was the Scottish equivalent of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) used in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and was introduced at the same time as the GCE. The SCE was split into two levels, Ordinary Grades (O Grades) for 16 year olds and Higher Grades (H Grades) for 17 and 18 year olds. The Certificate of Sixth Year Studies (CSYS) was also available for those in 6th year (18 year olds) who had completed their H Grades in 5th year (17 year olds). All of the above qualifications have since been replaced by a new set of awards. The Scottish Qualification Certificate (SQC) awarded by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) is now the main certificate.
