One Hot Minute
One Hot Minute is an album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was released on September 12, 1995. Three years elapsed between the release of the band's previous album Blood Sugar Sex Magik and their recording of the album, which began around late 1994 or early 1995. The previous guitarist of the band, John Frusciante, left the group mid-tour in 1992 after becoming disillusioned by fame. After a string of replacements, the band settled on guitarist Dave Navarro, formerly of Jane's Addiction until he left in 1998. The year after, John Frusciante returned to the band and appeared on Californication and By the Way. This is often considered by fans and critics to be the Chili Peppers' weakest work since their masterpiece (Blood Sugar Sex Magik). Frusciante's departure had left the band in a creative drought. Their style regresses without the beauty of nostalgia on tracks such as "Walkabout", a funky, jazzy tune which sounds as if it has been taken straight from their self-titled debut. In "Pea" bassist Flea plays on his own with only acoustic bass and him singing about a "redneck dick" who had assualted him. The two occasions upon which the album shines are "My Friends", an acoustic ballad done with style, and "Aeroplane", a subvertedly menacing funk track.
