Organisation climate
Organisation climate is an ongoing collective assessment based on perceptions of how current developments are affecting members in terms of their needs and expectations. It is different from, though related to, organisation culture, which is concerned with an enduring base of values and beliefs regarding organisation, people and work. Members in an organisation have needs of security, esteem and growth, which they try to fulfil through work. They expect dignity, fairness and equity in their membership of the organisation. The interactions of the organisation with its multiple environments generate management responses that translate into actions, decisions and behaviour. These responses speak to the members, who in turn interpret them for guiding their actions. These interpretations crystallise into images that are collectively held, worked upon and replaced, if need be.
