Orrville, Ohio
Orrville is a city located in Wayne County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,551. The J. M. Smucker Co, owner of the successful Smucker's brand, is based out of Orrville. Orrville is the hometown of college basketball coach Bobby Knight.
Geography
Orrville is located at 40°50'29" North, 81°46'17" West (40.841441, -81.771524). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.9 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.19% is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 8,551 people, 3,305 households, and 2,343 families residing in the city. The population density is 618.3/km² (1,600.8/mi²). There are 3,489 housing units at an average density of 252.3/km² (653.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.89% White, 5.93% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.15% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.51% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 1.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,305 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 24.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.04. In the city the population is spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.6 males. The median income for a household in the city is $36,500, and the median income for a family is $46,728. Males have a median income of $32,565 versus $25,252 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,419. 7.7% of the population and 5.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.3% of those under the age of 18 and 8.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
