Overdub
Overdub is a technique used by music studios to add a supplementary recorded sound to a previously taped musical recording, with the intention of either enhancing the quality of the original recording or of correcting human flaws such as the wrong execution of a certain section of the song. Despite the fact that some bands such as Blind Guardian make use of this resource in order to multiply the strength of their recordings (to give the impression that there isn't a band playing, but rather a whole orchestra), this resource is most often used by manufactured (or studio) bands - such as boy bands or pop rock bands - to give the impression that the musicians are more skilled than they in truth are. While on the mainstream market the use of overdubs is rarely questioned, on the heavy metal scene it is seem by most hardcore or old school fans as a poser attitude, utilized by bands with no talent.
