Palace Amusements

Palace Amusements

Palace Amusements was a historical indoor amusement park in Asbury Park, New Jersey, USA. It was famous for the demonically grinning fun face on the side of it, nicknamed Tillie. It opened in 1888, closed in 1988 and was deomolished in 2004, despite protests from many people, including those from the magazine group Weird NJ, who said it was a historic New Jersey landmark. Despite the attempts of those people, the owner did not listen, and it was demolished to make way for a hotel. The only part of the Palace Amusements that was saved was Tillie's face and the Bumper Car mural. After shutting in 1988, the Palace Amusements building was abandoned and did not get the treatment it needed in order to be preserved as a National Landmark. It then fell into disrepair and ruins, which is probably why it wasn't restored and re-opened. The Palace Amusments building was open for 100 years, and was in existance for 116 years.
