Palace of Sports
The Palace of Sports is situated in the center of Kiev on the right bank of the Dnieper river. It was built in 1960 under the leadership of Mykhailo Hrechyna and Aleksei Zavarov as a major indoor sports arena. It was also a venue for large concerts with bands such as Deep Purple, A-Ha and Big Country. The venue also hosts major exhibitions and trade fairs. In 2005 it will host the Eurovision Song Contest. The facilities will be brought up to the standard required by the European Broadcasting Union in 2005. |
