Peccia
Peccia is one of the six small Swiss municipalities which were merged in April 2004 to form the commune of Lavizzara, with about 1000 people. The other municipalities were Broglio, Brontallo, Fusio, Menzonio, and Prato-Sornico. Peccia is a village in the Valle Maggia. In spite of the size, since 1984 a sculpting school established, working mostly on the marble of a local quarry. In fact it is the only place in Switzerland where marble is being quarried. The material has also been used when the church of Mogno (a hamlet of Fusio) was rebuilt by Mario Botta after the old one was destroyed by an avalanche.
