Pelham Parkway (IRT White Plains Road Line station)

Pelham Parkway (IRT White Plains Road Line station)

Pelham Parkway has a windscreen over much of the station; only the south end escapes. A view over the south end railings reveal the station originally had low concrete walls and windows, here again bearing resemblance to the Queens Boulevard stations on the Flushing Line. The station still has old lights on the platform. Evidence shows a removed old sign near the south exit to the south mezzanine. In order to harmonise better with the wide parkway over which the station was built, the entire exterior of the station was stuccoed. This included extra (possibly structurally unnecessary) supports along the sidewalks (in addition to the plain steel supports down the White Plains Road pavement). These stuccoed supports effectively hid the steel supporting structure from parkway strollers and motorists.
