Peta Nocona
Peta Nocona (b. ? - d. 1860) was a Native American chief who led the Noconi Comanches in Texas from the 1830s to 1860. He was the husband of Cynthia Ann Parker and the father of Quanah Parker. Peta Nocona was involved in a raid on Fort Parker in May of 1836, when Cynthia Ann Parker was taken captive. He was killed December 18, 1860 at Pease River in a battle with Captain Lawrence Sullivan Ross and his Texas Rangers. Some sources indicate that his name means He who travels alone and returns. Nocona, Texas is named after the Noconi leader.
