Poof

The term poof can be used in several ways:

as a British English term for a a large footstool (from the French word "pouf").
as another and perjorative English term for a gay man. "Bob - have you seen that poof in the corner with his orange juice?" See also British slang, faggot (slang).
as a term for an act of disappearance
as a term for something fluffy.

It is thought that the etymology probably dervies from puff.
