Pop Rocks
Pop Rocks are a carbonated sugar candy available since 1975. When eaten, Pop Rocks melt, resulting in a popping sound and a slight tingling sensation. The idea for the product dates back to the late 1950s; in 1961 William A. Mitchell, a chemist working for General Foods, received the first of several patents for the product. General Foods didn't market the product until 1975, and stopped producing it in the 1980s. Since 1979, Zeta Espacial S.A, a company based in the municipality of Rubí in Barcelona, Spain, has manufactured, sold, and exported the product. During the product's heyday, rumors persisted that mixing Pop Rocks and cola would kill you.
