Prague city districts

The division of Prague into city districts is somewhat complicated. In history the city expanded, various formerly independent municipalities joined Prague, and various administrative divisions were implemented. For this reason historical names are often ambigous, with different borders in different systems.

Recent districts

Before 1994, Prague was divided into 10 numbered districts, or 'district groups', Praha 1 - Praha 10. Each one consisting of a few (named) districts. That changed when some named districts were grouped Praha 11 - Praha 22, the numbered ones shrunk. Now there are twenty-two so called 'administrative districts' (state administration), most of them including a few municipal districts (self-government, elected bodies). Only some municipal districts have non-numerical names.
