Pupkin

Pupkin

"Pupkin" is a surreal adventure comic by Bobby Crosby about a polite and mostly cheerful round orange dog. Crosby launched the original daily comic on July 1, 2002, and says that he only did it out of boredom and because his friends constantly asked him to put something on his domain name, http://www.bobbycrosby.com.

Within the first month of the strip, it was already popular because it made the "Awful Link of the Day" on SomethingAwful.com, which sent Crosby a lot of haters, and surprisingly, some fans. It's not a secret to fans of "Pupkin" that Bobby Crosby dislikes the strip and would most likely have ended it very early in its run if fans hadn't asked for more. And fans did ask for more, so Crosby continued giving them what they wanted.

The strip continued and introduced memorable characters such as Pumpkin Dog #1, Heart, William, the Waggles, and the Snaggles. A fan-favorite storyline was the one where Pupkin met a crippled Waggle and three Snaggles who were cousins named Cuz, which would later be turned into a Macromedia Flash cartoon.

On November 1, 2002, "Pupkin" was in the Top 10 on TopWebComics.com and was even at the #1 spot for a while. This resulted in many webcomic authors being jealous, leading them to request that their fanbase vote for any comic that was one spot below "Pupkin," just to kick it from the spot. Crosby later had even more trouble with TopWebComics, which would later result with his strip being kicked off the list.

In March 2004, Crosby returned with a comic called "The Non-Identical Triplet," but he ended it before long. Pupkin appeared in a single panel of "The Non-Identical Triplet," under the name Tobie.

In October 2004, the Keenspot Comics Page had an open slot it needed to fill and Bobby Crosby was asked to do a one-panel "Pupkin" comic for it. He agreed to do it. Since February 28, 2005, these comics have been showcased every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
