Qiaotou

Qiaotou

Qiaotou (桥头; lit. "Bridge End") is a small town located in southwestern China in Yunnan Province, spanning the bordering Yangtze River between Zhongdian County (currently renamed to Shangrila County) and Lijiang City. There is a road bridge on the Yangtze River, hence the name of this small town covering part of Zhongdian and Lijiang.

Qiaotou is the south end of the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge hiking route, the other end of which is Daju in Lijiang. There are several buses to Shangrila County which pass Qiaotou.

The residents of Qiaotou are immigrant Chinese who in history escaped to this remote area from the war in inland China. Since the hiking business boomed here, a lot of restaurants, cafes and charter cabs have appeared.

Most tourist who visit the Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge also stop here to dine and rest.
