References to Star Trek in The Simpsons

This is a list of references to Star Trek in the television series The Simpsons.

Three Men and a Comic Book

At a comic book convention Martin Prince asks at the lost and found desk: "Excuse me sir, has anyone turned in a left Vulcan ear?" He is wearing a right Vulcan ear.

Blood Feud

As the doctor is talking about Mr. Burns' illness, Smithers exclaims "Dammit doctor, I'm no idiot..." in a way which parodies McCoy's many similar lines. Shortly thereafter he rips his shirt in much the same way as Kirk's shirt was often ripped during fights.

Mr. Burns uses the phrase "Revenge is a dish best served cold." In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Khan says this is a Klingon proverb. However, the saying does not originally come from Star Trek II; see Quotations on revenge for its history.

Itchy and Scratchy: The Movie

Bart, Lisa and Abe are watching Star Trek XII: So Very Tired, a parody of other Star Trek motion pictures.

The "movie" shows the cast of Star Trek: The Original Series as elderly people. At one point, a gray-haired Captain Kirk wearing reading glasses, gives an order to a fumbling, overweight Chief Engineer Scotty, who protests in a Scottish accent "It's no use, captain; I canna' reach the control panel!"

Another memorable quote, this time from the "captain's log":
:Captain's Log Stardate 6051: had trouble sleeping last night... my hiatal hernia is acting up again. The ship is drafty and damp; I complain, but nobody listens.

This is possibly a reference to a classic episode of the show, where several crew members were exposed to a virus and developed a strange sort of extraterrestrial progeria but the more likely target of the satire is the fact that as the movies progressed the original cast of Star Trek was becoming rather too aged to credibly portray a crew of bold adventerurers.

Marge vs. the Monorail

Leonard Nimoy, a celebrity on the monorail's maiden voyage, tells a fellow passenger that "the doors on Star Trek weren't automatic, there was a stage hand on the other side that opened it when they saw you coming." The passenger responds by asking if anyone wants to switch seats. The show ends with Nimoy stating his work is done, and when Barney informs him he didn't do anything, Nimoy responds, "Oh, didn't I?", before being beamed out of the scene.

Deep Space Homer

The title is a play on Deep Space Nine.

Homer and Barney are admitted to the NASA space program and must compete in a series of tests. In a scene that spoofs The Gamesters of Triskelion, Homer and Barney fight in a ring to the music of the ST:TOS fight theme.

Bart, Lisa and Homer are watching an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show entitled Scar Trek: The Next Laceration. The title is an obvious play on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and the music at the beginning of the episode is very similar to the ST:TOS theme.

Itchy & Scratchyland

In the title sequence the family is beamed onto the couch, Star Trek style.

Bart's Girlfriend

In church, Abe admits, "I was the one that cancelled Star Trek!"

Homer vs. Patty and Selma

In the title sequence the family is beamed onto the couch, Star Trek style. This is not the exact same intro that is used for Itchy & Scratchyland.

The Homer They Fall

Comic Book Guy tries to return an "ultimate belt" (a belt with lots of little gadgets) to a technology store. When asked for a receipt he says "No, I do not have receipt. I won it as a door prize at the Star Trek convention, although I find their choice of prize highly illogical, as the average trekker has no use for a medium sized belt."

The Springfield Files

Dr. Hibbert asks Homer if the alien is carbon-based or silicon-based. This is probably in reference to an occurrence of a silicon-based life-form on Star Trek (such as the Horta, or the Crystalline Entity, amongst others).

Leonard Nimoy (who begins as the narrator of the story but later becomes part of it) is called Spock by a guy selling him a hot dog.

Bart to the Future

While performing at Nelson's nightclub, audience members begin throwing beer bottles at Bart and Ralph. Technical supervisor Willie creates a shield that protects them, but it begins to buckle. Willie says, "We need more power. The shield won't hold much longer!", à la Scotty.

The Great Louse Detective

When the Simpsons go to a day spa, they see Kent Brockman and Tom Brokaw have their faces altered so they appear younger, just like in Star Trek: Insurrection. Kent's face is streched back to make him younger, like how the Son'a were treated, and the guide says "They can take ten years off your face".

Dude, Where's My Ranch?

While the Simpsons are doing the dishes, the radio plays William Shatner's version of "Everybody hates Ned Flanders", a song written by Homer.

'Tis the Fifteenth Season

The family watch a ST:TOS version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol on TV.

When Comic Book Guy rips his pants, he exclaims "activate cloaking device!" while covering the hole by tying his jacket around his waist. When the jacket also rips he instead unwraps a candy bar with the words "engage candy bar."

My Big Fat Geek Wedding

At the BiMonSciFiCon (bi-monthly science fiction convention) Comic Book Guy and Edna take part in a Klingon wedding ceremony. The ceremony is not an accurate recreation, a "real" Klingon wedding ceremony can be seen in the Deep Space Nine episode You are Cordially Invited for comparison. Later, Homer and Marge are remarried by the Klingon priest:

:Marge: I do!
:Homer: Marge, you just agreed to raise the kids Klingon!
:Marge: D'oh!
