Road number

Road number

A road number is a number assigned to a stretch of road, or of a long distance route. The numbers usually depends on the type of road, eg interstates, motorways, A-roads, freeways etc. The number usually has a letter followed by a number of up to 4 digits. For example, the main road from London to Edinburgh in the United Kingdom is called the A1 (the "A" in Britain means it is a first class route, more important than "B" roads), and in the United States the interstate between Boston and Seattle is called the I-90.

Certain fictional road numbers have been set aside for use in TV shows or films.
