Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield
Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport is a new international airport due to open in April 2005. The first flights are due to depart on 28th April. Located at the former RAF Finningley base in Finningley, South Yorkshire, the airport lies six miles from Doncaster and eighteen miles from Sheffield. Current airlines due to fly from the airport are Thomas Cook, Thomsonfly, and Ryanair. Although the airport lies alongside a railway line, a station is not planned as part of the initial development. Instead, public transport will be by bus from Doncaster station. There have been public concerns about the naming of the airport, and the lack of dedicated transport links to the site. It is hoped by some in Yorkshire that, even at this late stage, the name will be changed to something they consider to be more appropriate. This airport is served by a few airport bus links, including the 707, which departs from Doncaster every hour, for Robin Hood Airport.
