Sahih Bukhari

Sahih Bukhari

Sahih Bukhari is a hadith collection written by Bukhari. It is the most important hadith collection for Sunnis.

"Sahih" is a Arabic word that means among other things "authentic", so "Sahih Bukhari" could be translated as "Bukhari's Authentic sources". The authentic part in the name is a reference to the credibility of the hadiths in his collection, that is, they are all authentic.

Shias however disagree, and deem that included are many false hadiths, some of which serve only to defame the Prophet and his pure household. The Shias' most important hadith collection is Usul al-Kafi; but even this collection is not considered to be authentic by Shias themselves as well.

Bukhari was an Iranian from the Persian city of Bukhara in what is today Uzbekistan.
