Skudai Highway

Skudai Highway

Skudai Highway (Lebuhraya Skudai), also known as Senai Highway (Lebuhraya Senai) or Jalan Skudai is a 29-km partial access highway starting from the town of Senai to Johor Causeway which connects Malaysia and Singapore. In Singapore, the causeway is a part of Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE). The highway is also a part of Malaysia's Federal Route 1 and also a part of Johor Bahru expressway network.

Opened to traffic in 1985, Skudai Highway used to be a toll highway until March 2004 when the Federal government decided to abolish the toll at Senai toll plaza. Perviously, the concession of the highway was held by Plus Expressway Berhad as a part of the North-South Expressway project. Today, only Johor Causeway Toll Plaza is still in operation for Singaporean motorists. Today, the highway is now administered by Department of Works, Malaysia (Jabatan Kerja Raya).

Skudai Highway was originally a 4-lane highway (2 on each direction) but the stretch from Bandar Baru Uda to Skudai has been widened to 6 lanes in 2001 to enable the highway to handle higher traffic capacity.

The speed limit for the highway waries from 70 ~ 90 km/h as follows:-

  • Senai town: 70 km/h
  • Senai-Skudai stretch: 90 km/h
  • Skudai-Bandar Baru Uda stretch: 80 km/h
  • Bandar Baru Uda-Johor Causeway (Jalan Tun Abdul Razak): 70 km/h
