Souheganthe name origin of Souhegan is from the native American language of the algonquins, Souhegan means "Waiting and watching place". The area lying in the providence of Lat 35.9 and Lon. -76.28 is north and south of the Scuppernong River outside of Columbia NC. Scuppernong is from the native language meaning Asuppa mung, or "sweet bay tree". |
