Spiral Galaxy NGC 55.The Spiral Galaxy NGC 55 (also known as NGC 55) is a barred spiral galaxy, morphologically similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud. It is located about 5 million light-years away, and is usually considered to belong to the Sculptor group of galaxies, but its radial motion is consistent with membership to the Local Group. It appears bright and cigar-shaped on the sky due to its close distance and near edge-on orientation with respect to the Earth.
