Suleiman II of Rum

Suleiman II of Rum

Suleiman II aka Rukn ad-Din Suleiman Shah (1196-1204), was the Seljuk sultan of Rüm in 1196-1204.

Son of Kilij Arslan II (reigned in 1156-1192), he overthrew his brother, Sultan Kay Khusrau I (reigned in 1192-1196 and 1205-1210). Fought neighbouring rulers, he expanded the territories of the Sultanate of Rüm. Successful in the wars with the Byzantines, he was routed by the Georgians in the battle of Basian of 1203.

He was succeeded by Kilij Arslan III 1204-1205.
