The game was broadcast on NBC in the United States with Curt Gowdy, Al DeRogatis and Don Meredith.

The defenses won the first half, whose only score was a safety forced by the Pittsburgh. A 9-yard Franco Harris run made it 9-0 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Vikings rallied to 9-6 on a blocked punt for a touchdown before Bradshaw hit tight end Larry Brown from 4 yards out to put the game away.
