The Game

The Bills seemed to have control of this game by halftime. But it ended up like the previous three Super Bowls -- a loss by Buffalo.

Dallas returned the opening kickoff to midfield but could only score a field goal. The Bills then responded with one of their own, tying the score 3-3.

Midway through the first quarter, the Cowboys recovered a fumble lost by Bills running back Thurman Thomas at the 50-yard line. But Dallas still could not move the ball into the end zone and had to kick another field goal to take the lead, 6-3.

Late in the first quarter, the Cowboys were penalized for roughing the kicker during a Bills punt. This foul set up Thomas' 4-yard touchdown run to give the Bills a 10-6 lead early in the second quarter.

With 1:03 left in the second quarter, Dallas quarterback Troy Aikman was intercepted by the Bills, who kicked a field goal as the half expired. Buffalo ended the half leading 13-6.

But that was all that Buffalo could do as the Cowboys dominated the second half. Forty-five seconds into the third quarter, Thomas fumbled again, and Dallas safety James Washington took the ball 46 yards to tie the game.

The Cowboys then forced the Bills to punt, and then marched 64-yards to score a touchdown and take the lead 20-13. During that scoring drive, Dallas running back Emmitt Smith carried the ball during 7 out of the 8 plays, including the 15-yard touchdown run.

Meanwhile, Dallas' defense continued to stop Buffalo's offense throughout the second half. Washington intercepted another Bills pass on the first play in the fourth quarter, which set up another Smith touchdown (a 1-yard run) that increased the Cowboys' lead 27-13. And another Dallas field goal sealed their victory, 30-13.
