Swaffham

 

Swaffham

Swaffham is a town in Norfolk, England and is named after an Anglo-Saxon tribe named the "Swaefas".

Population: Presently around 6400.

In the 14th and 15th centuries, the town had a flourishing sheep and wool industry.

The Market Cross was built by Horace Walpole, the 4th Earl of Orford and presented to the town in 1783. On the top is the statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of the harvest.

The town is the home of infamous 'lotto lout' Michael Carroll.
