Sword & shieldA style of martial arts first practiced in Europe around 1100's, sword and shield fighting involves using a sword, most commonly a longsword, to attack with, and a shield to defend. This eventually gave way to the heavily armoured horseback fighting of later times and the more civilized fencing. Currently enjoying a rejuvination along with many other types of older martial arts that have not been practiced for many years.See also
