Terence Stamp

Terence Stamp

Terence Stamp (born July 22, 1939) is a British actor.

He was born at Stepney, London, United Kingdom, and has appeared in more than fifty feature films, first making his name in the 1960s as one of the most famous faces in 'swinging' London society. He played the title role in Billy Budd, and starred in Far from the Madding Crowd with Julie Christie. However, he gained considerable popular fame as the Phantom Zone prisoner, General Zod, in the Superman feature film series starring Christopher Reeve.

More recently, he starred in The Limey, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) as Chancellor Finis Valorum, in Elektra and as Prince Lubovedsky in Meetings with Remarkable Men (1979). He played a transsexual in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994).

Stamp and Julie Christie were a couple in the late 1960s. It is rumored that The Kinks song Waterloo Sunset was written about them, although guitarist Dave Davies denies this.
