Tiberius Claudius Paulinus

Tiberius Claudius Paulinus

Tiberius Claudius Paulinus was a Roman general and politician of the early third century AD.

He had been commander of Legio II Augusta at Caerleon and then held two governorships in Gaul before becoming governor of Britannia Inferior, a province of Roman Britain in AD 220.

He was a popular man; whilst away governing Gaul, the Silures tribe set up an official inscription dedicated to him despite their usual hostility to Rome. A letter sent by him to a friend, Sennius Sollemnis survives as do several other inscriptions. By 221 he had been succeeded in Britain by Marius Valerianus.
