Ticket to Ride (game)

Ticket to Ride is a railway-themed German-style board game designed by Alan R. Moon and published by Days of Wonder. The game was released in 2004, and that year won the Spiel des Jahres (German game of the year award). The game is also known as Zug um Zug (German) and Les Aventuriers du Rail (French).

Players collect different coloured 'railway car' cards, which are used to claim routes on a map of the United States and collect points. Additional points are gained by completing routes on the players' 'destination cards', and by claiming the longest route.

A 'Mystery Train Expansion' was released in 2004, as a free giveaway in the December 2004 edition of Game Trade Magazine and at the Essen 2004 game festival.

Ticket to Ride Europe

Ticket to Ride Europe is a variation of the original game and was released in 2005. The changes from the original include:

• A new map, showing an idealised version of Europe.
• Ferry routes, which require 'Locomotive' cards to be played when claiming them.
• Tunnel routes, which add an element of risk and chance to the game.
• Train stations, which allow a player to sacrifice points to use a route claimed by another player.
• Changes to the procedure of distributing 'destination cards'.
