Titanic (TV miniseries)
This Titanic movie premiered in 1996, on TV. It was shown two nights. It was not critically acclaimed, described as, "lavish looking, star-studded, but hackneyed...Nothing allays one suspicion that [those scenes in the lifeboats] were shot in a bathtub." This version tells three stories for each of the three classes. Mrs. Isabella Paradine is travelling on the Titanic, going back to her husband on land. On the Titanic, she meets Mr. Wynn Park, her ex-husband. She falls in love with him again, sending her husband a telegram saying that they can't be together anymore. In second class, the Allison family is going to America with a nurse, Alice Cleaver. They notice something wrong with her, and a maid asks her if she had been in Cairo last month. She denies it, because she killed her baby there. In third class, Jamie Pierce steals a ticket to get on board. He manages to become friends with the purser, who is a robber. Jamie falls in love with Osa Ludvigson and they spend time on board together. However, something happens to her, and she doesn't trust anybody anymore. The ship hits the iceberg and he can't convince her to get off in a lifeboat. Finally, she does. Alice Cleaver leaves with the Allisons baby, Trevor, and getting into a lifeboat. The family doesn't know, and they refuse to leave the ship without their baby. Isabella has to leave Wynn, reluctantly. I won't give away the ending, but this was an interesting, if not totally accurate, account of the Titanic disaster. It didn't have great special effects, but because it was a T.V. movie, it could be excused. This movie, however, would probably only be suitable to people 15 and older. This movie is a good one, and worth a rental. Even buy it if you see it for a reasonable price, although only if you know you like it first.
