Totse
Totse (TOT' see / TOWT' see, from the acronym for "Temple of the Screaming Electron"), is a bay area BBS started by Jeff Hunter, aka "Taipan Enigma", in 1989 (a founding member of NIRVANAnet™) as a dial-up BBS named "& the Temple of the Screaming Electron". Totse became available on the World Wide Web in 1997, and in the spring of 1998 the dial-up BBS system was discontinued. Totse is home to a vibrant message forum, and is reputed to host the world's largest collection of text files. Totse.com has a strong commitment to free speech, as can be seen in the diversity and occasionally unsavory nature of its articles, the fact that BBS members can post essentially anything as long as they do not become "trollss", and most especially that the first paragraph seen upon opening the Totse.com main page is the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. There are some exceptions to the free speech rule: Goatse, Lemonparty, Outwar (a game where points are earned for number of times a link has been clicked), and, for a short time, the word "nigger" was banned due to spamming. There are 34 individual forums on the Totse.com community bulletin board with, according to the site, about 29,000 registered users and a staff of 4 administrators and 49 moderators (as of April 2005). Totse.com went off line for a while on December 24, 2004 because of the overdue re-registering.
"Totse-isms" Besides the usual Internet slang such as "pwned" and "n00b", Totse.com has many cliché rejoinders to threads whose sole purpose is to be annoying. Some examples: - "Too long, didn't read." "Murder/Suicide" and its many variations, such as "Murder/Regicide", "Condom/Spermicide" and "Delete/Ban"."OMFG SNOOPY IS GAY" and other various disparaging references to moderators of these forums. "Brilliant!" A phrase used almost like Pwned, yet in a positive way (although sometimes also with an ironical or Dadaistic connotation)."Pen0r" a word used instead of penis. "Molotov everything." referred to as a solution for any problem."I've had your mom to appear!""OMGWTFBBQ" a statement of pure chaos and confusion."Too stupid, don't care.""Kewl" Referring to mainly young forum users who do not type in English, but in "leet". Originally introduced in 2001 to denote immature users who read literature such as The Anarchist Cookbook."I've decided to post here.""BANNED" In reference to an offense seen as ban-worthy. Also purposely misspelled as "band"."CLOSE THREAD", "Locked", etc. Reference to a stupid topic."Huff Raid" A potentially deadly activity that is often suggested to people who make bad posts about drugs, along the same lines as go play in traffic. Similar activities include "smoking green tea" and "snorting nutmeg"."Don't get Half Baked" In reference to Totse's "spam" forum, Half Baked, where all the bad posts go."[/thread]" Indicating that a thread is unworthy of existance."Kidiot" to indicate a childish moron."Object not found!"
