Turbo pinto

The Ford Pinto came with the naturally-aspirated 2.3 liter 4-cylinder. Later, with the introduction of the Mustang SVO and Thunderbird TurboCoupe, people began transplanting the turbo-2.3 liter into the Pinto. 1974 or later model Pintos are preffered, as the engine is a direct bolt in. The turbo-2.3 itself is a great motor; with the ability to make over 350 hp(mind you this is a 4-cylinder) with nothing more than a larger turbo and other small parts. One notable person, Joe Morgan, owns a pinto that runs 10s in the quarter-mile. This is on pump-gas, with a fully street-lagal setup, all while getting 25+ miles per gallon.
