Tylium
Tylium is a fictional ore in the science fiction series "Battlestar Galactica (2003)". Within the settings, Tylium is very rare throughout the known universe, but essential for fueling both human and Cylon space ships, including for the purpose of faster-than-light jumps. The specific heat of refined Tylium is 5 × 1014J/kg (which means 0.556% of its rest mass can be converted). Tylium is unstable and reacts strongly exothermal if sufficiently heated, especially the less stable refined Tylium precursor. It is also mentioned that Tylium will become useless if subjected to strong radiation, although it is not clear whether this is an intrinsic property of Tylium, or that the activation will simply make it impossible to store and handle. In the episode 10, season 1 ("The Hand of God"), pilots of the Battlestar successfully attacked a Cylon mine in desperation for tylium fuel.
