Tyson Research Area
The Tyson Research Area is a 2,000 acre (8 km²) field stations operated by Washington University in the United States. The center is located in the Saint Louis, Missouri metropolitan area partially on the land where Times Beach, Missouri was located. The area was used as a munitions storage area during World War II and was purchased in 1968. It is part of the Henry Shaw Ozark Corridor which consists of over 8,000 acres (32 km²) of protected lands. It is a member of the Organization of Biological Field Stations (OBFS). Tyson research center hosts or hosted at one time; - The Wild Canid Survival and Research Center (Wolf Sanctuary) relocating to a Jefferson County site, south of Pacific, along Highway F.
- The Missouri Mycological Society field headquarters
- The World Bird Sanctuary, now located at nearby Castlewood State Park, but continues to share some facilities at Tyson.
Tyson also has a weather station and monitors acid rain as part of the National Atmospheric Deposition Program.
