Ukyo Katayama

Ukyo Katayama

Ukyo Katayama (片山 右京 Katayama Ukyō, born May 29, 1963) is one of several Japanese driverss to try their hand at F1 without making a major impact.

Born in Tokyo, he first raced in Europe in 1986 in France before returning home to win the Japanese F3000 series in 1991 leading to a deal with the back-marking Larrousse GP team for 1992. Two 9th place finishes were his best but his sponsors bought him a drive with the Tyrrell team for 1993 when an unreliable and uncompetitive car failed to bring him any top ten finishes.

He participated in 97 grands prix, debuting on March 1, 1992. He scored a total of five championship points.
