United States Comptroller General

 

United States Comptroller General

The United States Comptroller General is the director of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) (formerly known as Government Accounting Office), a goverment agency founded in 1921 to ensure the accountability of the federal government.

The Comptroller General is appointed for a fifteen-year term. The current Comptroller General is David M. Walker, who became the seventh Comptroller General of the United States on November 9, 1998.
