U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee
The Joint Economic Committee is one of only four joint committees of the U.S. Congress. The committee was established as a part of the Employment Act of 1946, which deemed the committee responsible for reporting the current economic condition of the United States and for making suggestions for improvement to the economy. There are currently 20 members: 12 Republicans and eight Democrats. The chairman of the committee is congressman Jim Saxton (R-NJ), and the vice-chairman is senator Robert Foster Bennett (R-UT).
