U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland
The United States District Court for the District of Maryland is the Federal district court whose jurisdiction is comprised of the state of Maryland. Notable judges in this districtinclude William Paca, a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence. The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court.
Organization of the court Under 28 U.S.C. § 100, Maryland consists of a single federal judicial district with two statutory divisions. The Southern Division includes Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's, and St. Mary's counties and sits in Greenbelt. The Northern Division includes the rest of the state and sits in Baltimore, although the statute also provides for the court to sit in Cumberland and Denton.
