U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan is the Federal district court with jurisdiction consisting of the eastern portion of the state of Michigan. It was established by an act of Congress on December 24, 1863, when the U.S. Congress split the U.S. District Court for the District of Michigan into two judicial districts. The District Court is based in Detroit, with courthouses also located in Ann Arbor, Bay City, Flint, and Port Huron. The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit has appellate jurisdiction over the court. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan represents the interests of the people in civil and criminal litigation in the court. The United States Attorney's main office is in Detroit and staffed branch offices are located in Flint and Bay City. An unstaffed branch office is located in Ann Arbor.
