Val Marie, Saskatchewan
Val Marie is a village located in the southwestern region of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is only a few kilometres from the Canada-USA border. Considered the gateway to the Grasslands National Park, Val Marie's economy is largely based on tourism as well as natural gas, ranching, and farming. On August 14, 2004, Grasslands - Where Heaven Meets Earth, a site specific art performance, was held in the community and park. The event was a collaboration of Canadian artists including Bill Coleman, Edward Poitras, Gordon Monahan, and Margie Gillis.
