Vaughan-King-Aurora

Vaughan-King-Aurora represents both an Ontario provincial electoral riding, and an abolished Canadian federal electoral riding of Ontario.

Provincial Riding

The provincial riding of Vaughan-King-Aurora was created before the 1999 election as a redistribution of other ridings, due to population growth in York Region.

Municipalities in this riding were previously in any of the following ridings:

  • York Centre (Vaughan)
  • York-MacKenzie (Newmarket, Aurora, King)

Other ridings created or modified as a result of this redistribution are:

  • York North (Newmarket)

Currently, the riding is held by the Honourable Greg Sorbara, representing the Ontario Liberal Party in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Sorbara is the Minister of Finance for the Cabinet of Ontario.

Federal Riding

The federal riding of Vaughan-King-Aurora was abolished in 2004,as ridings in York Region were redistributed due to its fast-growing population. It existed only for the 1997 and 2003 elections. Before that, the municipalities in the riding were served by various ridings:

  • Markham (1996-2003)
  • Oak Ridges (1996-2003)
  • Vaughan-Aurora (1996-1997)
  • York North (1867-2003)

The redistribution of those ridings resulted in King-Vaughan-Aurora and the following ridings:
